The Bonney Lake Panthers softball team entered this season with more questions than answers. After years of dominance in the 3A ranks, the transition to the SPSL 4A division brought a wave of uncertainty. Could they still compete at the highest level? Would they find their footing against bigger schools with deeper rosters? One thing, however, was never in doubt: they had an ace. And in March, their ace proved she’s more than just the best arm in the circle—she’s the heartbeat of this team.

Senior pitcher Aspyn Evanson has been electric, leading the Panthers to a 5-2 record overall and a perfect 2-0 start in league play. But it’s not just her dominance on the mound that’s turned heads. Evanson has been just as lethal at the plate, making her an easy choice for The Bonney Lake Insider’s March Athlete of the Month.

As the team’s go-to pitcher, Evanson has been lights-out, racking up 44 strikeouts—good enough to rank her 10th in the state. Her five wins tie her for sixth in Washington, and every time she steps into the circle, she gives the Panthers a chance to win. But her contributions don’t end there.

At the plate, Evanson is tearing the cover off the ball. She leads the team in batting average (.667), home runs (4), and walks (11), proving to be an on-base machine. And when she’s not trotting around the bases, she’s still racking up extra-base hits, sitting second on the team in doubles (3).
