In a highly anticipated early-season matchup, the Bonney Lake Panthers played host to the Spanaway Lake Sentinels in a league contest that showcased the early dynamics of both teams. Despite the optimism of a fresh start, both squads entered the game with identical 0-1 records, each seeking a pivotal victory to climb the ranks of their division.

The history between the two teams adds an extra layer of intrigue, as last year, Spanaway Lake clinched the fifth spot in the PCL, while Bonney Lake finished just beneath them in sixth. The stakes were clear, and the teams were eager to make their mark in the young season.

As the game tipped off, the intensity on the court was palpable. Both sides exhibited commendable defensive prowess, resulting in a first half that remained tightly contested. The opening quarters saw the Panthers edging out a narrow lead, entering halftime with a slim advantage at 12-11.

However, the narrative took a dramatic turn in the second quarter, as Spanaway Lake found their rhythm and began to assert control. Demonstrating solid ball control and a more potent offensive strategy, the Sentinels closed the first half with a comfortable 30-22 lead.

The third quarter proved to be the turning point, with 6'5" junior Lane Weir emerging as the standout player for Bonney Lake. Weir's offensive prowess came to the forefront, contributing eight of the team's ten points in the quarter. Despite Weir's efforts, Spanaway Lake intensified their defensive pressure, triggering a series of Panther turnovers.

The Sentinels, led by their imposing defense and the scoring prowess of AJ Blanks, continued to widen the gap. Blanks, who led all scorers with an impressive 23 points, showcased his skillset, leaving the Panthers scrambling for answers. The third-quarter buzzer sounded with Spanaway Lake in complete control at 56-32.

The fourth quarter saw no respite for the Bonney Lake Panthers. The Sentinels maintained their tenacious defense, stifling any attempts at a comeback. As the final buzzer echoed through the gym, the scoreboard told a convincing story: Spanaway Lake emerged victorious with a commanding 70-42 win.

Layne Weir emerged as the leading scorer for the Panthers, putting up 13 points, followed closely by junior Jamian Lewis with 10. Despite the setback, the Panthers now turn their attention to their next challenge, a game against an opponent at Lincoln High School in Tacoma on Thursday, December 14th.

For the Bonney Lake Panthers, the loss serves as a reminder of the work ahead, while the Spanaway Lake Sentinels can carry the momentum of this dominant performance into the rest of the season. The early clash has set the tone for both teams, leaving fans eager to see how the remainder of the season unfolds.
