The Journey Begins: A Love for Volleyball
Meet Jada Shipp. From backyard games with her mom and sister to making a name for herself on the court, Jada’s volleyball journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Growing up, Jada was naturally drawn to the sport, playing in her local parks and recreation league during elementary school. But it wasn't until middle school that her passion truly took flight. As an outside hitter, Jada began honing the skills that would define her as an athlete. “I have always enjoyed playing volleyball since I was young,” Jada reflects. “During the pandemic, I had a major growth spurt, and my coach moved me to middle hitter/blocker, and that’s been my position since.”
Dominating the Net: High School Success
Now a junior at Bonney Lake High School, Jada has become a cornerstone of the Panthers’ volleyball team, known for her dominance as a middle hitter/middle blocker. “I love this position because you play a big part in controlling the net,” she shares. “You go up for every block and are always involved in what is going on. While this can bring plenty of reward and success, it can also be a difficult and tiring position. Despite the challenge, it’s all worth it.”
Her hard work and dedication paid off last season when she was selected for the first team all-league, a testament to her impact on the court. As the Panthers prepare to compete in the 4A division this year, Jada is ready to face tougher competition head-on. “I do believe the competition will be tougher in the 4A division, but it is no challenge that our team can’t take on,” Jada says confidently. “If we work hard, play together, and continue to improve day to day, we have the potential to be great.”
Beyond Volleyball: A Dual-Sport Athlete
Jada’s athletic skill isn’t limited to volleyball. She also excels in track and field, where she competes as a thrower. Last season, she placed 4th in the state for shot put at the WIAA track and field state championships, a remarkable achievement that highlights her versatility as an athlete. This year, she will serve as one of the team captains, a role that underscores her leadership both on and off the field.
Balancing Academics and Athletics
While Jada’s athletic achievements are impressive, she’s equally focused on her academics. With a natural inclination toward math and science, she is considering a future in the healthcare field, though she remains open-minded about her college choice. “I typically gravitate toward math and science studies,” Jada explains. “After high school, I am not sure exactly what I want to study, but I do know I’d like to pursue a career in the healthcare field.”
Looking Ahead: Goals for the 2024 Season
As the 2024 volleyball season approaches, Jada’s goals are clear. “My hope for the upcoming season is to continue to bond as a team, have lots of fun, and of course, I definitely hope to win some games!” Her enthusiasm for the sport and her team is evident, and as she prepares to lead the Panthers in a new division, there’s no doubt that Jada Shipp is a name to watch.
The Person Behind the Athlete
Off the court, Jada is an extroverted and family-oriented person who enjoys spending time with her loved ones. Her passion for life, both in sports and beyond, shines through in everything she does.
