Meet Kohen Sauer. The Bonney Lake senior has been swinging a golf club since before he could walk, and now, he's leading the Panthers into a new era as they step up to the SPSL 4A division. With a near-scratch handicap and a history of dominating his competition, Sauer has his eyes set on making waves in his final high school season.
A Journey Rooted in Golf
Sauer’s love for golf started early—so early that he doesn’t remember a time without it. “I’ve had a club in my hand ever since I could stand,” he says. His parents introduced him to competitive golf at the age of six, but by nine, he shifted his focus to baseball. It wasn’t until eighth grade that he made the decision to return to golf full-time, realizing his potential to compete at a higher level. It’s a choice that has defined his high school career.

Setting Records and Making History
Sauer isn’t just a standout golfer—he’s a record-setter. As a freshman, he became only the second player in Bonney Lake boys golf history to hit a hole-in-one. Last season, he won the two-day league tournament by an astonishing 11 shots. His current handicap sits at 1, but he’s determined to reach scratch by season’s end. His best round? A 67 at High Cedars last summer, a testament to his consistency and precision on the course.
The Move to SPSL 4A
This season brings new challenges as Bonney Lake steps into the highly competitive SPSL 4A division. For Sauer, it’s an opportunity, not an obstacle. “I think moving to different divisions and playing different schools and courses is going to be a great experience,” he says. He believes that as long as the team sticks to their game, they have what it takes to compete at the highest level. His goal? Lead Bonney Lake to a top-five finish at state.
The College Decision
With graduation on the horizon, Sauer is weighing his college options. While he hasn’t made a final decision, he’s leaning toward Western Washington University or another local Division II program where he plans to continue his golf career. Academically, he’s considering business or engineering, keeping his options open as he balances life on and off the course.

More Than a Golfer
Though golf is his passion, Sauer’s athletic background is diverse. He grew up playing baseball and football, traveling across the country for baseball tournaments and competing alongside future Division I athletes. While he ultimately chose golf, he wouldn’t trade those childhood experiences for anything. Off the course, he enjoys fishing, working out, hanging out with friends and his girlfriend, and gaming with “the boys.”
A Season to Remember
As his senior year unfolds, Sauer is focused on finishing strong. He’s aiming for individual and team success, but more importantly, he’s embracing the journey. With a club in his hand and confidence in his swing, Kohen Sauer is ready to leave his mark on Bonney Lake golf.
