Meet Maddy Lohse. For Maddy, the water has been a second home since she was six years old. Growing up with the Valley Aquatics Swim Team, Maddy's journey began with sprint freestyle and butterfly events, focusing on the 50s and 100s. But as she’s matured, so has her repertoire. Over the past year, her best events have evolved into the 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle, and 200 butterfly, showcasing her versatility and endurance.

Maddy has made a splash in the pool throughout her high school career, earning a spot at state and state finals in all three of her seasons so far. Now, in her senior year, she’s determined to leave a lasting legacy at Bonney Lake High School. Her name already graces the record board three times—for the 200 freestyle, 200 medley, and 400 free relays—but she’s not stopping there. Maddy’s eyes are set on breaking records in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, and 500 freestyle this season.

Her dedication doesn’t end when school lets out. Maddy trains with her club team, Valley Aquatics, at the highest level, putting in double practices daily. It’s a grueling schedule, with five hours of training Monday through Friday and three more hours on Saturday. But for Maddy, the hard work is part of the thrill, a testament to her commitment to the sport she loves.

Heart of the Panther: Beyond the Pool

Maddy’s impact at Bonney Lake High School extends far beyond the swim team. She was honored with the “Heart Of The Panther” award, a testament to her leadership and character. As president of the Jesus Club, Maddy leads with passion and purpose, bringing her faith into her daily life at school.
