The Bonney Lake Panthers wasted no time showing why they’re near the top of the SPSL 4A South standings, beating the Curtis Vikings 60-25 in a Saturday matinee matchup. With a suffocating defense and contributions from across the roster, the Panthers improved to 10-4 on the season and gave their home crowd plenty to cheer about.

The game started with a statement: an 18-0 run fueled by relentless full-court pressure. Sophomore standout Izzy Meki sparked the Panthers early, draining two three-pointers, while Keira Lonn added five of her 10 points in a stellar opening quarter. The Vikings struggled to find a rhythm against Bonney Lake’s defense, managing only eight points in the first quarter as the Panthers surged ahead, 21-8.

The second quarter saw more of the same from Bonney Lake, with their defense stifling any hope of a Curtis comeback. As head coach Nick Edens rotated in players, sophomore Salem Baker-Stanhope capitalized on her minutes, sinking two smooth three-pointers that brought the crowd to its feet. By halftime, the Panthers held a comfortable 33-15 lead.

The second half saw more of the same dominance. Meki continued her hot streak, adding six points to finish as the game’s leading scorer with 15. Senior forward Sophia Mackay joined the long-range fun, knocking down a three-pointer in the third quarter. By the time the fourth quarter rolled around, Bonney Lake had built an insurmountable 50-18 lead, allowing the coaching staff to rotate in younger players for valuable experience.

With the win, the Panthers demonstrated why they’re a force in the SPSL 4A South division. They now turn their attention to Tuesday’s road game against Emerald Ridge, where they’ll look to build on their momentum.
