Under the bright lights and electric atmosphere of Daffodil Lanes, the Bonney Lake Panthers girls bowling team delivered a nail-biting performance Tuesday evening, outlasting the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles in a match that came down to the final frame. The Panthers, now 3-1 on the season, showcased a mix of dominance and resilience to secure the victory.
The opening game set the tone for what would become a memorable battle. Both teams came out strong, trading strikes and spares through the seventh frame, locked in a back-and-forth rhythm that had fans riveted. But in the eighth frame, the Panthers found another gear. Anchored by the consistency of Jayden Thayer (180), Aubrey Strickling (164), and Brieanna Huynh (151), Bonney Lake unleashed a flurry of strikes that gave them a commanding 62-pin lead by the end of Game 1.
Brooke Musial (102) and Violet Vincent (95) also contributed crucial frames, their steady throws amplifying the team’s confidence heading into the second game.
But the Eagles weren’t ready to fold. In Game 2, Graham-Kapowsin flipped the script, finding a rhythm early while the Panthers stumbled to regain their footing. Despite another standout performance from Thayer (207), the rest of the Panthers struggled to keep pace. Strickling (117), Huynh (122), Musial (108), and Vincent (95) worked to keep the team afloat, but the Eagles clawed back, shaving 37 pins off the Panthers’ lead.
With only the two Baker games remaining, the tension in the alley was palpable.
Baker 1: Eagles Surge Ahead
The first Baker game began with the Eagles riding their Game 2 momentum, putting together a series of clutch strikes and spares. The Panthers, meanwhile, found themselves scrambling to respond. Thayer’s strike in the fifth frame temporarily slowed the Eagles' charge, but Bonney Lake’s inconsistency proved costly. The Eagles edged out a narrow 158-130 win, leaving the Panthers trailing by three pins overall.
Baker 2: Thayer Saves the Day
The second Baker game was a masterclass in grit and determination. Knowing every pin mattered, the Panthers came out swinging. Brieanna Huynh and Brooke Musial opened with a spare and a strike, setting the tone for the rest of the team. Strickling continued her string of spares, and the Panthers entered the tenth frame with a razor-thin two-pin deficit.
Enter Jayden Thayer.
With the Eagles sitting at 107 and the Panthers at 105, the pressure rested squarely on Thayer’s shoulders. In a moment that will be talked about for weeks, she delivered a clutch turkey—three strikes in a row—to seal a 135-126 victory in the second Baker game and clinch the match for the Panthers.
The Daffodil Lanes crowd erupted as the final pins fell, a mix of cheers and relieved laughter filling the air.
The Panthers, now riding high on this hard-fought win, will look to build on their momentum Thursday, December 5th, when they take on the Curtis Vikings at Tower Lanes in Tacoma.
Catch your breath, Bonney Lake fans—this season is just heating up.
