Meet Thomas Howard, a junior at Bonney Lake High School who is quickly ascending as a standout figure in the vibrant sports community of Bonney Lake. This young athlete is not just a jack-of-all-trades; he's a master of many. With a remarkable blend of talent, dedication, and ambition, Howard has been making waves in both track and field and tennis, carving out a legacy that's nothing short of extraordinary.

 

Early Beginnings and Javelin Journey

Howard's journey into the world of track and field began in middle school, where he quickly discovered a natural talent for javelin throwing. Reflecting on his humble beginnings, Howard recalls, "We were throwing 300g turbo javelins that looked like mini torpedoes." Despite the unconventional equipment, he set the Mountain View Middle School record with a throw of 116' 9.5".

 

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted his progress, but Howard bounced back stronger in his freshman year, transitioning to the standard 800g javelin. Despite facing injury setbacks, he clinched a remarkable throw of 131' 6" at the district meet, solidifying his position as one of Bonney Lake's top javelin throwers.

 

Tennis: A Surprising Addition

While Howard's track and field journey showcases his natural athleticism, his foray into tennis is a testament to his versatility. Joining the tennis team on a whim in freshman year, Howard quickly integrated himself into the lineup, earning his first varsity letter as a sophomore.  His junior year he found himself making his mark on the team by playing #2 singles and #1 doubles.

 

Despite limited wins, Howard's determination on the court is evident. His ability to balance two demanding sports speaks volumes about his work ethic and dedication to excellence.

 

A Season of Ambition and Goals

 

As Howard navigates his junior year, he's set his sights on lofty goals. With a promising start to the track season, highlighted by a throw of 143' 5.5", Howard remains focused on surpassing his personal best and aiming for the school record of 170 feet in javelin.

 

Furthermore, Howard harbors ambitions of representing his school at the state level, a testament to his competitive spirit and unwavering determination to excel in his craft.

 

Looking Toward the Future

In a recent interview, Howard expressed his aspirations beyond high school sports. With a keen interest in Military and Strategic Studies, he envisions himself pursuing his academic and athletic endeavors at the prestigious US Air Force Academy.

 

While track and field might take precedence in his collegiate pursuits, Howard's commitment to both his athletic and academic pursuits reflects a well-rounded approach to his future endeavors.
